About Carol Hama
After a few years of working as a civil engineer I took a very early retirement when we moved out west: hung up my hard hat & steel toed boots to raise a family. Very soon I found myself immersed in the wonderful world of art and selling through a gallery quite by accident. I was invited by a gallery owner to bring in a few paintings and to my great surprise, I was told that a small watercolour, "Pansies" was sold while the galley owners were still perusing my portfolio! Thus began my career as a professional, self-taught artist.
I served the maximum allowable number of terms as President of the Federation of Canadian Artists (Edmonton Branch). As a signature member and juror on the jury committee I helped set the standards for that group as well as for the Society of Western Canadian Artists (SWCA).
I have exhibited in solo, joint ('Brush with Sunlight' with Frank Haddock) & group shows with the 'Artists Borealis Group', a group of 16 select artists (including Jerry Heine, Min Ma, Bi Cheng, Wei Luan, Audrey Pfannmuller, Kari Duke, Gregg Johnson, Russ Hogger and Isabel Levesque) from the Edmonton area and have had several articles published on watercolour painting techniques in several art periodicals including the "Watercolour Gazette" and the Federation of Canadian Artists' periodical, "Canadian Artists" and have taught watercolour at the University of Alberta (Extension Dept ELLA), MacEwan University (Minerva) both by invitation, and both watercolours and oils at the City Arts Centre (Edmonton, AB) for over 12 years and have served as juror for art shows and competitions throughout the Edmonton Region.
My works can be found in private and corporate collections across North America and Europe.
